We all are in line
We live in a world where we line up for almost everything.
Before the pandemic we gathered in many places. There are few activities that
do not require our standing in a line. Almost always there is a cattle chute
where we are conditioned to get in line. Much of the time it’s well ventilated
or maybe even air conditioned. There are often conversations among those
nearby. Subjects covered may be politics, religion, the economy, but more
frequently it’s the safe topic of weather. Some settings even offer a big
screen TV to view while waiting your turn. Sometimes we are given a “buzzer”
that holds our place in line as we wait. Often, we have a basket, or a cart
filled with goods for a clerk to count or scan our selections. There are those
behind us waiting in the line for their turn with the clerk. We wait our turn
in amusement parks, scared to death of the roller coaster, ballparks, field
houses, and a host of other entertainment venues. We drive our cars up to the
stop sign and again we wait our turn. Virtually all things we subject ourselves
require us to wait our turn. Not much preparation is needed to be in line. If
not before, certainly by kindergarten or first grade we know lines and the
decorum of line expectations. We line up for the trip to the playground, the
rest room, and the lunchroom. There were always those who did not want to abide
by the line rules. They would hop around looking for ways to beat the system,
but eventually most learned the lesson of “my turn”. We are all in the same
line at conception. This line suggests that preparation should be ongoing down
through the years. Your turn is inevitable regardless of the preparation.
Everyone will have his or her turn. Sometimes your turn may come without
warning. More often your turn depends on the years you have been standing in
line. Again, there are those that jump the line after deciding it is their
turn. When will it be your turn? Only God knows when it’s your turn. Are you
ready? It is the only time this will happen. Sure, it’s scary. Even Jesus, in
the garden, knew fear and asked that this cup be taken from Him. He quickly
acknowledged that the will of the Father be done. It is only natural to be
scared, but if you prepare, it is less frightening and even comfortable to
think about. The preparation is simple. John 3:16, For God so loved the world
that he gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him may have life
everlasting. We all have our turn. There are those who have had their turn in
the line ahead of us. There are those who are in line behind us. There is no
doubt that our place in line will bring us to our turn. Please take time to
accept Christ if you have not already. Spend time before your turn is upon you.
Attempt to emulate Christ’s teaching and his life. We all fall short, but with
the Grace of our Lord and Savior, our turn, when it comes, will lead us to life
everlasting, dwelling with God the Father Almighty in heaven.
God loves you more than any human can understand, his grace for you is eternal, as long as your heart is beating you can receive that grace just simply ask.
